ken and sherry Ken Trivette serves as the president and director of Native American Baptist Missions. He attended Tennessee Temple Bible School (1974-1977) and pastored Churches in Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. In 2008, he resigned from the Temple Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he had served for 22 years to work with Native Americans. Along with his role as president and director, he and his wife Sherry, serve on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Ken and Sherry are natives of Boone, North Carolina.

THE PINE RIDGE RESERVATION
Located in South Dakota, the Pine Ridge Reservation is the home of more than 28,000 Oglala Sioux. Pine Ridge was established in 1889 in the southwest corner of South Dakota on the Nebraska border. Today it consists of 3,468.86 sq mi making it larger than Delaware and Rhode Island combined. The Reservation encompasses the entirety of Shannon County, the poorest county in the United States.
  • 80% of residents are unemployed (versus 10% of the rest of the country);
  • 49% of the residents live below the Federal poverty level (61% under the age of 18);
  • Per capita income in Shannon County is $6,286;
  • The Infant Mortality rate is 5 times higher than the national average;
  • Native American amputation rates due to diabetes is 3 to 4 times higher than the national average;
  • Death rate due to diabetes is 3 times higher than the national average; and
  • Life Expectancy in 2007 was estimated to be 48 for males and 52 for females.
